The volume reproduced here appeared in 1906, shortly after the disaster described. The original book includes several chapters about other disasters, which this historian has ommitted as peripheral to the main focus of the book.
The editor has also reordered the illustrations, selecting and placing them so that they match the text. He has kept the original captions, noted the photographers, and otherwise done little to alter the book aside from the changes noted above.
